The handle is smooth and comfortable but not heat-resistant (which the accompanying paperwork admits and suggests using something like a potholder when handling it). The whistle can be heard from a couple rooms away so you don't have to babysit it.I read the other person's review in which she mentioned rusting in the first week or so of use. I have had this kettle for over a month now and I use it often and it has not rusted, HOWEVER, I follow the directions it came with which clearly state to empty it completely every time you're done with it or it could rust. So, just make sure you don't leave water sitting in it when you're not planning on using it and it should be fine. Add-on Review: It's now 6 years later, I'm still using it.
